Job Submission

Procedure

If you require engineering assistance, then contact the Mechanical Design Engineer for an appointment.

If not, then proceed as follows:

  1. Download and print a copy of the Work Request Form.
  2. Fill in open (white) fields down to "Estimate" section.
  3. Attach all necessary drawings and design documentation to form (see inimum drawing requirements below).
  4. Submit form, drawings, and materials (if applicable) to Shop Coordinator directly or via fax.

Your job will be processed according to these steps:

  1. Shop personnel will estimate cost of time and materials to complete job. Any available matching time and costs will be subtracted to yield estimated total. Shop Coordinator will contact Principal Investigator for approval of estimated cost.
  2. Principal Investigator receives and approves estimate.
  3. Job is placed into shop queue. Jobs are processed on a first-in, first-out basis. In many cases, shop personnel will contact the Client once his/her job is started.
  4. Parts/assemblies are created or modified.
  5. Actual time and costs are recorded. Matching time and costs are subtracted to produce total amount owed to shop. Shop coordinator inspects parts and reviews paperwork. Client is then contacted to arrange delivery/pick-up of order.
  6. Client receives completed job.
  7. Principal Investigator is billed for costs.

Minimum drawing requirements

Drawings may be either extremely neatly drawn hand sketches or computer-generated prints. In any case, they must contain the following items:

Part drawings

  1. Part name/description
  2. Last revision date
  3. Designer
  4. Project name
  5. Units
  6. Material
  7. Part fully defined with clearly dimensioned and labeled views
  8. Dimension tolerances (Unless otherwise specified, Standard Shop Tolerances will be used.)

Assembly drawings

  1. Assembly name/description
  2. Last revision date
  3. Designer
  4. Project name
  5. Assembly fully defined with sufficient views
  6. Item labels or item callouts with Bill of Materials

Please take the time to check (or have someone else check) your drawing for completeness and clarity. Unclear or missing specifications will delay your order, which is frustrating for you and us.
